About Us

Fort Worth Quakers are a non‑programmed, liberal Quaker meeting, formally known as the Fort Worth Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.

If you are new to Quakers—or simply curious—you are very welcome here.

Our Worship: Listening Expectantly

Our central form of worship is called unprogrammed (or non‑programmed) worship. This means we do not plan sermons, music, or readings during the first hour of worship. Instead, we gather in silence and practice what we call listening expectantly.

For some, this is a time to quiet the mind.
For others, it is a time to notice thoughts, questions, or leadings as they arise.

At times, someone may feel inwardly led to stand and speak—a message they feel is meant for the whole community. These spoken messages, when they occur, arise from the silence and return us back into silence.

You are never expected to speak, and there is no “right” way to participate.

A Liberal, Welcoming Community

We are part of the liberal Quaker tradition, which emphasizes openness, ongoing spiritual exploration, and the belief that truth is continually being revealed.

As a non‑creedal community, we do not require shared beliefs or a statement of faith. Our meeting includes:

  • People who identify as Quakers and people who do not

  • People who believe in God, people who don’t, and people who are unsure

  • Weekly attenders, occasional visitors, and those we see once a year

What connects us is not uniform belief, but a shared commitment to the Quaker way—including long‑held testimonies about equality, community, peace, integrity, and care for the wider world.

All are welcome.

Our Wider Quaker Community

Fort Worth Monthly Meeting is part of the South Central Yearly Meeting (SCYM), a regional body of Quaker meetings across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. As the name suggests, SCYM gathers annually.
